Buc-ee’s to construct new location in Florida

FLORIDA — Buc-ee’s, the popular Texas-based travel center chain known for its oversized stores, spotless restrooms, and beaver mascot, is setting its sights on Tallahassee for its next Florida location.

According to documents filed with Leon County, the company has submitted development plans for a 75,000-square-foot travel center near the intersection of Interstate 10 and Capital Circle Northwest.

The store would be built on a 73-acre site and is expected to serve as a major regional travel hub.

If approved, the project would bring an estimated 200 full-time jobs to the area. Buc-ee’s reports entry-level hourly wages starting at $16, with some positions reaching up to $32 per hour. Management roles may offer salaries of more than $100,000.

The proposed site would feature 120 fuel pumps, 795 parking spaces, 24 electric vehicle charging stations, and 11 spots for RVs and buses.

Like other Buc-ee’s locations, the store would offer a wide variety of snacks, merchandise, and freshly prepared food.

While the plan has generated excitement over its potential economic impact, some residents and local business owners have expressed concerns about possible traffic and environmental effects.

The project is still under review, with public hearings expected later this spring. If approved, construction could begin by the end of 2025, with a projected opening in late 2026 or early 2027.
