KENTUCKY — A body has been recovered following a multi-agency search that began after an iPhone crash-detection alert and a subsequent missing person report Friday evening.

According to the Campbell County Police Department, officers were dispatched around 8 p.m. to the Melbourne area after receiving notification of an iPhone crash detection alert. Around the same time, a missing person report was filed, prompting authorities to launch an extensive search of the surrounding area.

Multiple emergency crews responded, including the Boone County Water Rescue Team, as search efforts continued into the night.

After several hours of searching, first responders were preparing to expand operations Saturday morning when they were notified that a vehicle and the missing individual had been located. The vehicle was found overturned in a shallow section of Lloyd Creek, a considerable distance from where the initial crash alert had been triggered.

The Campbell County Coroner responded to the scene following the recovery. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released. Officials said the name will be made public after positive identification is confirmed and next of kin have been notified.

The incident remains under investigation.
