VIRGINIA — Authorities are investigating after a woman was found dead Sunday in a remote area of Buchanan County, according to the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle in the Looney’s Creek area and discovered a pickup truck stuck in the mud on an ATV trail about two miles off Old Wolf Road. Officials said the vehicle was registered to Kimberly Christian.

According to the sheriff’s office, Christian had not been reported missing at the time.

A search of the surrounding area was launched, and Christian’s body was later located nearby.

Her body was transported to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Authorities also said a dog found inside the truck, which appeared to have been without food for an extended period, was turned over to Buchanan County Animal Control.

The investigation remains ongoing.
