VIRGINIA — Police in Newport News are investigating after a body was discovered behind a local hospital Monday afternoon.
According to the Newport News Police Department, officers were dispatched around 2:24 p.m. on April 6 to the 12000 block of Warwick Boulevard for a water-related emergency.
Authorities said a contractor reported seeing what appeared to be an unconscious person in Lake Maury, located behind Riverside Regional Medical Center. When officers and medics arrived, they found a person in the water who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the individual’s identity and cause of death have not yet been determined.
The department’s Forensic Services Unit and detectives are processing the scene, canvassing the area and collecting evidence.
The investigation remains ongoing.
