Bicyclist injured after being struck by vehicle on I-95 in Virginia

VIRGINIA — Virginia State Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left a bicyclist seriously injured Monday afternoon in Henrico County.

According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 4:05 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, on Interstate 95 South near the Chamberlayne Avenue exit. Investigators said a man was attempting to cross the interstate on a bicycle when he was struck by a tractor-trailer.

Witnesses reported seeing a red bobtail tractor pulling a flatbed that appeared to brake suddenly before hitting the bicyclist. After the collision, the tractor-trailer continued driving south and left the scene, police said.

Authorities believe the suspect vehicle may have damage to the left side as a result of the crash. The bicyclist sustained serious injuries, though additional details about his condition have not been released.

Virginia State Police said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to the crash or the suspect vehicle is encouraged to contact police.
