FLORIDA — Authorities are searching for a driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist early Saturday morning on Atlantic Boulevard.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 5:20 a.m. in the 6500 block of Atlantic Boulevard. Investigators say a man in his mid-40s was riding a bicycle westbound when he was struck by a dark-colored sedan.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead.

JSO Sgt. Robert Hungerford said the driver failed to stop after the crash. “The driver that struck the bicyclist did not stop to render aid, call for help, nor contact police to report the incident,” Hungerford said. “Instead, the suspect vehicle fled the scene southbound on Glynlea Road.”

Based on the investigation, the suspect vehicle is believed to be a 2012–2014 black Toyota Camry that likely has front-end damage.

Atlantic Boulevard at Glynlea Road was closed in both directions for several hours Saturday morning as detectives investigated the scene.

The crash marks the 52nd traffic fatality in Duval County this year and the fourth involving a bicyclist, according to JSO.
