Bicyclist dead after being struck by vehicle in Florida

FLORIDA — A 71-year-old Titusville man was killed Friday night after his electric bicycle collided with a car on U.S. Highway 1, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened at about 8:17 p.m. on U.S. 1 north of Kings Highway in Brevard County. The collision involved a 2016 Honda Accord and the electric bicycle.

The driver of the Honda, a 36-year-old Titusville man, was not injured and stayed at the scene, authorities said. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the site of the crash.

Southbound lanes of U.S. 1 were temporarily blocked following the accident. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
