All public schools in Ohio closed Monday

OHIO — All public schools in Ohio will be closed tomorrow, January 20, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The federal holiday, celebrated on the third Monday of January each year, honors the legacy of the civil rights leader who advocated for racial equality and nonviolent resistance.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day was signed into law as a federal holiday in 1983 and first observed in 1986.

In 1990, Ohio designated it as a state holiday, and all public schools have since closed in recognition of the day.

Schools, government offices, and many businesses across the state will also be closed.

Many Ohio communities will host events, including parades, educational programs, and volunteer opportunities, to honor Dr. King’s contributions to civil rights and social justice.
