ALABAMA — Several schools in the Wiregrass area will operate on a one-hour delay Thursday, March 12, due to severe weather conditions, according to local officials.

Dothan City Schools announced that all schools in the district will begin classes one hour later than usual. Start times for specific campuses will vary. The Dothan City Early Education Center and the Head Start Center will begin at 8:45 a.m., while elementary schools will start at 8:40 a.m.

Dothan City Virtual School will begin at 9 a.m., and the Dothan 6th Grade Center and Dothan Preparatory Academy will start at 9:30 a.m. Carver 9th Grade Academy will begin classes at 9 a.m., while Dothan High School, Dothan Tech and PASS Academy will start at 9:15 a.m.

School officials said Dothan City School buses will run their regular routes with the one-hour delay. The district’s central office will also open one hour later than normal.

Houston County Schools also announced a one-hour delay for Thursday. Officials said secondary students who were originally scheduled for a virtual day due to ACT testing will instead attend school in person with the delayed start.
