Akron man sentenced to over 7 years for drug trafficking and firearm offenses

AKRON – Dion Dejournett, a 29-year-old resident of Akron, has been sentenced to 90 months in federal prison for drug trafficking and firearm offenses.

U.S. District Judge Bridget Meehan Brennan handed down the sentence after Dejournett pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine, and one count of possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking.

In addition to his prison term, Dejournett will serve five years of supervised release following his incarceration.

He has also been ordered to forfeit drug-related assets, including four pistols, a semi-automatic rifle, and more than $6,000 in cash.

The charges stem from a June 2023 raid on Dejournett’s apartment by the Akron Police Department (APD).

Officers executing a search warrant discovered methamphetamine and fentanyl hidden throughout the master bedroom, including in a closet, drawers, and under the bed.

Fentanyl was also found in plain sight on top of a dresser.

Additional items recovered included packaging materials, cutting agents, and a digital scale. Several firearms, including pistols and a semi-automatic rifle, were also confiscated from the residence.

Following his arrest, police found additional fentanyl on Dejournett’s person.

Laboratory tests confirmed the seizure of 116.39 grams of fentanyl mixtures and 1,460.51 grams of methamphetamine mixtures.

The investigation that led to Dejournett’s indictment was conducted by the Akron Police Department in collaboration with the FBI.
