INDIANA — A multi-agency law enforcement operation along U.S. 31 in Miami and Fulton counties has resulted in dozens of arrests and the seizure of illegal drugs and firearms.
The unannounced four-day effort, called “Operation Blue Thunder,” took place from June 16 through June 19.
The goal of the operation was to enforce traffic laws and crack down on individuals transporting illegal narcotics through the area.
According to officials, the operation led to 68 arrests on a total of 163 charges—most of which were drug-related. Twenty-nine of those charges were felonies. Officers also issued 102 traffic citations and 272 warnings.
Among the arrests, two drivers were taken into custody for impaired driving. Seized during the operation were various illegal substances, including cocaine, LSD, methamphetamine, and marijuana, as well as two firearms.
Authorities are encouraging members of the public to report any information about illegal drug activity to local law enforcement or anonymously to the Indiana State Police Drug and Gang Hotline at 1-800-453-4756.
