INDIANA — Indiana State Police seized approximately 100 pounds of methamphetamine during a traffic stop and inspection of a semi-truck Saturday in Putnam County, authorities said.

According to a press release, troopers stopped a Freightliner semi around 4:20 p.m. on Interstate 70 near mile marker 41, close to Cloverdale, to conduct a Department of Transportation compliance inspection.

During the inspection, troopers said they observed “criminal indicators,” which led to a probable cause search of the vehicle.

Police said the search uncovered about 100 pounds of methamphetamine inside the trailer. Authorities estimate the drugs have a street value of approximately $500,000.

The driver, identified as 33-year-old Kemar Brown of San Bernardino, California, was arrested and taken to the Putnam County Jail.

He faces preliminary charges of dealing methamphetamine, a Level 2 felony, and possession of methamphetamine, a Level 3 felony.

Officials said a Level 2 felony in Indiana carries a maximum penalty of up to 30 years in prison and a $10,000 fine, while a Level 3 felony carries up to 16 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The investigation remains ongoing.
