OHIO — A Roseville man’s forgetfulness turned out to be a stroke of incredible luck after he won $500,000 on an Ohio Lottery scratch-off ticket.

The man said he had left a $50 winning Best of 7’s ticket at home and decided to buy another one instead of cashing in the smaller prize. When he scratched the new ticket in his car, he said he “almost got sick” after realizing he had just won the game’s $500,000 top prize.

He immediately called his wife, who didn’t believe him until their son confirmed the win using the Ohio Lottery mobile app. The winning number was 13 — the same number as his dirt car racing number, which made the moment even more special.

After mandatory state and federal taxes of 27.125%, the winner will receive $364,375. He said the life-changing prize will allow him to pay off his home, buy a new car, and finally take a break from working seven days a week to spend more time with his family.

The lucky ticket was purchased at South 60 Market, located at 2040 S. River Road in Zanesville.

Best of 7’s gives players 60 chances to win on a single ticket. As of October 28, 2025, one top prize and two second-tier prizes remain.

Since 1974, the Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $34 billion to education. More information can be found at www.ohiolottery.com/supportingeducation.
