OHIO — A Carrollton resident struck it big with the last Best of 7’s scratch-off in the bin at Bellstore #146 in Malvern, winning the game’s $500,000 top prize. After mandatory state and federal taxes totaling 28 percent, the winner will take home $360,000.

The winner, who had been taking his wife to appointments for her cancer treatment, stopped at the store on the way home and decided to buy a couple of $5 scratch-off tickets. He noticed the last remaining Best of 7’s ticket and decided to try his luck.

“I like the end of the roll, I’ll buy in the middle too, but always liked the end of the roll best,” he said.

He scratched the ticket at home and was stunned to reveal the $500,000 prize. He immediately went to tell his wife.

“She looked at me funny and said did you fall? I said no I’m in shock! I think I won half a million dollars!” he said. His wife didn’t believe him until he scanned the ticket on the Ohio Lottery mobile app.

The couple plans to use some of the winnings to cover mounting medical bills and hopes to do something special together once his wife is feeling better.

Best of 7’s is a $10 game with a top prize of $500,000. As of August 27, two top prizes remain in the game.
