ALABAMA — The Mobile Police Department arrested 40 people following a three-month operation targeting prostitution and sex trafficking, officials said Friday.

Police said the operation, dubbed “Operation Spring Cleaning,” concluded Thursday and focused on identifying and apprehending individuals exploiting vulnerable people, while also addressing locations linked to drug activity and related violent crime.

According to authorities, investigators also worked to intervene with individuals involved in prostitution and escorting to help ensure their safety and reduce the risk of exploitation.

The operation resulted in 40 arrests, with charges totaling 10 felonies and 70 misdemeanors, police said.

Those arrested face a range of charges, including soliciting for the purpose of prostitution, loitering for sexual activity, possession of controlled substances, drug paraphernalia violations and outstanding warrants. Some individuals also face additional charges such as theft, arson, indecent exposure, resisting arrest and probation violations.

Police said one juvenile was also taken into custody on a charge of soliciting for the purpose of prostitution.

Authorities identified multiple individuals arrested during the operation and listed their charges. One person remains wanted in connection with the investigation.

The Mobile Police Department said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking and related crimes in the area.

The investigation remains ongoing.
