OHIO — A Norwalk man is celebrating a life-changing lottery win after claiming a $3 million jackpot prize from an Ohio Lottery scratch-off ticket.
According to the Ohio Lottery, the man purchased the winning ticket at Millers Market on Whittlesey Avenue while making a trip to pick up groceries. Officials said he decided to buy scratch-off tickets during the visit and initially won $20, which he used to purchase another ticket.
That ticket, a “Wild Cash Tripler” scratch-off, turned out to be the jackpot winner.
Lottery officials said the man initially saw a prize of $120,000 on the ticket and was confused because that amount was not listed among the possible prizes. After scanning the ticket, he learned he had actually won $120,000 per year for 25 years, totaling $3 million.
The winner chose the lump sum option of $1.5 million and will receive approximately $1,098,750 after taxes.
According to the Ohio Lottery, the man plans to use the money to pay off his house, take a vacation and invest the remainder.
The Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $34 billion to education since 1974.
