OHIO — A Northfield woman is celebrating a $250,000 lottery win after a series of small delays led her to purchase a winning scratch-off ticket.

According to the Ohio Lottery, the woman had saved several winning scratch-off tickets and went to a grocery store to cash them in. She planned to use her $25 in winnings to buy more tickets, but decided to leave when the ticket machine was occupied and taking too long.

While driving home, she stopped at Sagamore Quik Check, located at 263 W. Aurora Road in Northfield, because of its ticket selection. She inserted a $20 bill into the machine and purchased several tickets, but the machine would not accept her wrinkled $5 bill.

Instead of exchanging it for a crisp bill offered by a clerk, she chose to buy a $5 Jackpot Party scratch-off ticket from behind the counter.

The tickets were placed in her car’s glove compartment and forgotten for three days. When she later scratched the Jackpot Party ticket, she discovered it was a $250,000 winner.

After federal and state taxes totaling 26.75%, the winner will receive $183,125. As of Feb. 18, 2026, five top prizes remain in the Jackpot Party game.

The winner said she plans to use the money to spoil her grandchildren and hopes to take them to Disney next year.
