23 animals seized from Ohio home following investigation

OHIO — Nearly two dozen animals were removed from a home in East Palestine Friday afternoon following concerns about living conditions, according to officials.

Authorities said 23 animals were taken from a residence along West Main Street after emergency medical services alerted the Columbiana County Humane Society about the condition of the home earlier in the week.

Officials said 15 animals — including 12 cats, two rabbits and one dog — were initially transported to the humane society in Salem. Crews later returned to the home to retrieve eight additional animals.

Authorities said the animals were removed due to unsanitary conditions inside the home. Officials added that it is too early to determine whether charges will be filed.

The investigation remains ongoing.
