VIRGINIA — A 21-year-old motorcyclist from Chesterfield County died Tuesday after police say he ran a red light and crashed into an SUV at a Richmond intersection.
According to a news release from the Richmond Police Department, officers were called just before 4 p.m. on Nov. 11 to the intersection of South Belvidere and Spring streets for a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV.
When officers arrived, they found the motorcyclist, identified as Alexander Norton, 21, suffering from severe injuries. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
Investigators determined that Norton disregarded a red traffic signal and attempted to turn left onto South Belvidere Street from Spring Street, police said. At the same time, a southbound SUV turned left from South Belvidere Street into the intersection of Spring Street, and the two vehicles collided.
The driver of the SUV, a man who has not been identified, was not injured, according to police. No charges have been filed at this time.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Richmond Police Department at 804-646-1042.
