FLORIDA — One person was killed and another seriously injured following a single-vehicle crash Saturday night in Martin County, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the crash occurred on Sea Branch Boulevard near U.S. 1. A 20-year-old male driver lost control of the vehicle, which left the roadway and struck a tree. Authorities said the vehicle then caught fire.
The driver was transported to a hospital following the crash but later died Sunday morning from injuries sustained in the wreck, the sheriff’s office said.
A 20-year-old female passenger was able to escape the fully engulfed vehicle with the help of a Good Samaritan who stopped to assist. She was flown to HCA Lawnwood Hospital, where she remains in the intensive care unit.
The crash remains under investigation.
