FLORIDA — A 19-year-old man was pulled from the water unconscious Saturday afternoon at Ormond Beach, according to Volusia County Beach Safety officials.
Authorities said the incident happened around 1 p.m. when the man, who is from Winter Garden, was swimming in an unguarded area of the beach. Someone nearby noticed he was in distress and called 911.
Volusia County Beach Safety personnel responded and pulled the man from the water. Crews immediately began life-saving measures at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital.
Officials said there was no update on the man’s condition as of Saturday evening.
Beach safety officials warned that hazardous rip current conditions are present along the coastline and urged swimmers to stay near staffed lifeguard towers when entering the water.
Officials also recommended that beachgoers download the Volusia Beaches app, which helps users locate nearby lifeguard towers and access safety information.
