FLORIDA — A 19-year-old woman from Yulee was killed Sunday evening following a crash on the Buckman Bridge, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Interstate 295 in the left center southbound lane near the west end of the bridge. The motorcyclist collided with the rear of a sport utility vehicle traveling ahead of her, causing her to be thrown from the motorcycle.
First responders transported the woman to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The driver of the SUV, a man, sustained minor injuries, officials said.
The crash prompted the closure of multiple southbound lanes on the Buckman Bridge. Authorities noted that two southbound lanes had already been closed as part of an ongoing Florida Department of Transportation project, which includes intermittent weekend lane closures.
The incident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
