FLORIDA — A 19-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning in Tampa after a state trooper said he was driving at extremely high speeds on Interstate 4, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Authorities said Cirilo Rayo-Callejas was driving eastbound on I-4 just before 1:30 a.m. when he passed a trooper who was monitoring traffic. In an arrest report, the trooper stated that Rayo-Callejas was weaving through traffic on a wet roadway at high speeds without using turn signals. The trooper initially estimated the vehicle’s speed at about 95 mph.

When the trooper pulled onto the interstate to conduct a traffic stop, police said the driver accelerated rapidly. According to FHP, Rayo-Callejas ultimately reached a speed of 154 mph. The posted speed limit in that area of I-4 is 65 mph.

Rayo-Callejas was taken into custody and charged with reckless driving and super speeder violations, both misdemeanors. No injuries were reported in the incident.
