INDIANA — An 18-year-old from Indianapolis is in critical condition following a serious car crash early Saturday morning, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies said they responded to a report of a personal injury crash on State Road 9, just south of County Road 800 North, around 7:15 a.m. on Aug. 30.
When first responders arrived, they described the wreck as “significant in nature” and called in the department’s Crash Investigation Team.
Preliminary findings indicate a 2008 blue Infiniti G35 was traveling north on State Road 9 when it left the road, entered the grass median, and crossed back over the northbound lanes before veering off the east side of the roadway and rolling onto its roof.
The driver, who has not been publicly identified, was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by fire crews. They were airlifted to a local hospital, where authorities said they remain in critical condition.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Madison County Emergency Management, Alexandria Fire Department, East Madison Fire Department, and the Alexandria Police Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
