SOUTH CAROLINA — An 18-year-old believed to be from Florida was killed in a fiery crash along Interstate 95 in South Carolina on Wednesday morning, according to Colleton County Fire-Rescue.
Authorities said a couple traveling along I-95 witnessed a car veer off the roadway at a high rate of speed before striking a tree.
The vehicle quickly caught fire with the driver trapped inside.
The couple attempted to rescue the driver but were forced back by the flames.
A nearby deputy also responded and tried to pull the driver from the burning vehicle but was unsuccessful due to the intense heat and fire.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not released the victim’s name, but the individual is believed to be an 18-year-old from Florida.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
