FLORIDA — An 18-year-old girl was killed and an 18-year-old boy was seriously injured in an ATV crash Monday evening in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. on a dirt path west of Northeast 171st Avenue Road. The boy, who is from Ocala, was driving the ATV eastbound when the vehicle’s handlebar struck a tree, causing him to lose control.
Authorities said the ATV overturned and hit another tree. The teenage girl, a passenger from Anthony, died at the scene.
The driver was transported to HCA Ocala Hospital with serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
