NORTH CAROLINA — An 18-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly assaulting multiple police officers during a disturbance at a Family Dollar store on Plaza Boulevard in Kinston.

Kinston police said officers with the department’s C-Squad were called to the store around 3:33 p.m. on December 2 for a reported incident involving store clerk Les-Lee Dauwen. Upon arrival, officers determined Dauwen needed to leave the business. Police said he appeared extremely intoxicated and refused commands.

As officers attempted to escort him out, Dauwen allegedly slapped and pushed one officer. While being secured in a patrol vehicle, he reportedly spat on officers.

Dauwen was initially taken to the Lenoir County Jail but was transported to UNC Lenoir for a medical evaluation due to his level of intoxication. After being cleared, he was booked on charges including two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, malicious conduct by a prisoner, trespassing, and three counts of resisting arrest.

According to online records, Dauwen was released after posting bond on Thursday, December 4.
