FLORIDA — A 17-year-old has died following a multi-vehicle crash in Seffner, and authorities are searching for a third driver who fled the scene, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred along State Road 574 near Chastain Road. Investigators said a Nissan Versa driven by a 40-year-old man from Mulberry was traveling eastbound when it collided nearly head-on with a Volkswagen Passat driven by a 17-year-old from Seffner who was traveling westbound.
Following the initial collision, both vehicles came to rest in the roadway. A third vehicle, identified as a Ford F-150, then crashed into the wreckage, according to troopers.
Authorities said the driver of the Ford fled the scene on foot and has not yet been located.
Both drivers involved in the initial crash were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The 17-year-old later died from those injuries.
Investigators said it remains unclear why the Nissan crossed into the opposing lane. The identities of those involved have not been released.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate and is asking anyone with information about the fleeing driver to contact *FHP (*347) or Crime Stoppers.
