NORTH CAROLINA — One juvenile was killed and another was seriously injured following a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on Indiana Avenue, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.
Police said officers responded just after 1:45 a.m. to the 5700 block of Indiana Avenue, where they found a 2005 Honda that had crashed with two juveniles inside.
Emergency medical personnel provided aid at the scene. The driver was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. No update on the driver’s condition has been released.
The passenger, identified as 16-year-old Danian Piper, died at the scene. Authorities said her family and school district have been notified.
Investigators said the vehicle was traveling west on Indiana Avenue toward Bethabara Road when it lost control, left the roadway, struck part of a bridge, and came to rest in the roadway. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
