OHIO — A 16-year-old boy was arrested in Ohio after police received reports of a threat involving a local school on Thursday, authorities said.
According to a statement from the London Police Department, officers were alerted after multiple juvenile witnesses reported that the teenager allegedly said he would carry out a shooting at London Middle School. Witnesses also told police they observed the teen in possession of a gun, a police spokesperson said.
Police obtained and executed a search warrant Thursday at the juvenile’s residence just outside the city of London. During the search, officers seized a modified airsoft toy gun that resembled a small handgun, according to the department.
The Madison County Prosecutor’s Office has been contacted and will seek criminal charges against the teen, police said. Authorities emphasized that there is no imminent threat to the public.
Following the incident, the superintendent of London City Schools shared a message with parents on Thursday, which was also posted on social media. The London Police Department said the investigation remains ongoing.
