ALABAMA — A teenager has died following a single-vehicle crash in Clay County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Authorities said the crash happened around 9:15 p.m. Thursday, March 5, on Alabama 49. Investigators said a vehicle left the roadway, struck several mailboxes, overturned and then hit a tree.
A 15-year-old passenger in the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle, ALEA said. The teen was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment but later died from their injuries.
Officials said the driver of the vehicle was also injured and was transported to UAB Hospital for treatment. A third person who was in the car was taken to a local hospital with injuries.
ALEA said the crash remains under investigation.
