MARYLAND — A large-scale drug trafficking organization operating across multiple states has been dismantled following a lengthy investigation, resulting in 13 arrests and more charges pending.
Wes Moore joined local, state and federal law enforcement officials Tuesday in Salisbury to announce the results of the operation.
Authorities said the investigation targeted a drug distribution network operating across Maryland’s Eastern Shore, as well as parts of Virginia, Delaware and Baltimore.
The effort involved multiple agencies, including the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, along with several federal partners.
Officials said the investigation began in late 2024 after authorities received information about suspected drug activity involving an individual in Worcester County. Over time, investigators determined the suspect was part of a larger trafficking organization.
Law enforcement used a combination of surveillance, undercover operations, search warrants and a court-authorized wiretap monitoring multiple phone lines to identify members of the group.
Authorities said the operation resulted in 13 arrests, with additional suspects still being sought.
During the investigation, officials seized large quantities of illegal drugs, including more than 42 kilograms of cocaine, as well as heroin, fentanyl pills, MDMA, marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms. Investigators also recovered 11 firearms, more than $23,000 in cash, multiple vehicles and two properties tied to the organization.
Officials said the investigation also revealed connections to a Mexican drug cartel, with drugs allegedly transported across the country by tractor-trailer from Southern California.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges and arrests are expected.
