127 people arrested in connection with Ohio drug operation

OHIO — Police have arrested 127 people and seized 16 guns and $69,295 in illegal drugs as part of Operation Essex 3.0, a targeted effort in east Toledo.

The operation, which began on November 11, is the final Toledo Area Enhancement Method (T.E.A.M.) initiative for 2024, according to a press release issued Monday.

T.E.A.M. operations aim to enhance the quality of life for Toledo residents by addressing issues such as gun violence, narcotics sales, and neighborhood blight, while also engaging the community through safety programs and outreach.

Police released detailed results from Operation Essex 3.0:

  • 16 guns seized
  • 6 search warrants executed
  • $69,295 in drugs confiscated
  • 127 people arrested
  • 155 citations issued
  • 1 DUI arrest
  • 78 parking tags issued
  • 30 truants processed
  • 9 curfew violators handled
  • 6 gun safety programs hosted
  • 4 gun safety billboards displayed
  • 3 gun locks distributed
  • 3 community meetings held
  • 7 partnerships with area businesses and schools
  • 93 junk or abandoned vehicles towed
  • 45 blighted properties referred for remediation

This operation is part of an ongoing effort by Toledo police to address crime and improve neighborhood conditions.

Two previous operations in 2024 targeted the Lagrange corridor and west Toledo.

Year-to-date, T.E.A.M. operations have resulted in the following totals:

  • 53 guns seized
  • 27 search warrants executed
  • $352,315 in drugs confiscated
  • 362 people arrested
  • 1,086 citations issued
  • 9 DUI arrests
  • 392 parking tags issued
  • 63 truants processed
  • 20 curfew violators handled
  • 17 gun safety programs hosted
  • 12 gun safety billboards displayed
  • 16 gun locks and Narcan distributed
  • 9 community meetings held
  • 44 partnerships with area businesses and schools
  • 272 junk or abandoned vehicles towed
  • 226 blighted properties referred for remediation

Toledo police plan to continue these targeted efforts in neighborhoods across the city to reduce crime and foster community engagement.
