OHIO — An Akron resident struck it big with the Ohio Lottery’s new Linked Wins scratch-off, winning the game’s top prize of $100,000.
The lucky winner purchased their ticket at Speedway #3634 on East Market Street before heading to work.
After losing on their first two tickets, they decided to buy two more, which turned out to be a life-changing decision.
“I bought two of them and lost and was like, ‘oh, I might as well buy two more,’” the winner recalled.
Upon scratching off the winning ticket, disbelief set in. “My first thought was that I looked at it wrong,” they said, adding that while they’d previously won $100 and $500, they never imagined a $100,000 win.
To confirm the prize, the winner used the Ohio Lottery app, which validated the six-figure jackpot. “I was kind of just in shock,” they said.
After mandatory state and federal taxes of 28%, the winner will take home approximately $72,000.
They plan to use the money to catch up on bills and potentially plan a trip.
Linked Wins is a $5 scratch-off with a top prize of $100,000. As of January 9, two top prizes remain in the game.
Since 1974, the Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $33 billion to education.
