10 people injured following vehicle crash in Georgia

GEORGIA — The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) is investigating a 12-vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 19, leaving 10 people injured and temporarily shutting down both directions of the roadway.

Troopers responded to the scene around 7:50 a.m. after a green 2013 Ford Fusion struck a silver 2017 Ford Fusion in the left southbound lane, causing the silver Ford Fusion to break down.

The driver safely reached the shoulder before an unidentified tractor-trailer struck the disabled vehicle and fled southbound.

The impact triggered a chain reaction, with several vehicles colliding and others swerving into the median to avoid the wreckage.

Officials say fog contributed to the crash as drivers struggled to stop in time.

Emergency responders transported eight people to Phoebe Sumter with non-life-threatening injuries, while two others sought medical attention privately.

Both lanes of Highway 19 were closed for about 2.5 hours. The crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the tractor-trailer to contact GSP Post 10 in Americus at 229-931-2397.
