OHIO — A LaGrange woman’s spur-of-the-moment decision led to a major lottery win at a local convenience store.
The winner was visiting Mickey Mart #60 at 102 South Center Street to buy a Mega Millions ticket when she decided to also purchase a $1,000,000 Holiday Wish scratch-off.
She had bought the same $20 holiday-themed ticket twice before, and this time it paid off. She won the game’s annuitized grand prize of $40,000 a year for 25 years, totaling $1 million.
Instead of taking annual payments, she chose the lump-sum option of $500,000. After state and federal tax withholdings of 27.125%, she will receive $364,375. She said she plans to use the winnings to pay off her home and other debts.
The $1,000,000 Holiday Wish ticket has overall odds of 1 in 3.46, and as of November 5, four top prizes remain available, according to the Ohio Lottery.
The Ohio Lottery reports that it has contributed more than $34 billion to education statewide since 1974. More information about lottery games and education funding can be found at www.ohiolottery.com.
